Falmouth Golf Club, Cornwall

Project: Falmouth Golf Club, Cornwall

Material: Single Ply

Project brief

Located on the stunning Cornish coastline, par 72 Falmouth Golf Club is a must-visit destination for golfers of all abilities. As a thriving sports destination, the club’s current club house was no longer fit for purpose – now too small for a growing membership, not energy efficient and no longer financially viable to keep in repair. Alongside plans for a new club house, the club undertook an ambitious expansion project, which included constructing 48 eco-friendly lodges, a new club house and a new pro-shop with an accompanying training facility.

Working with zero carbon emission construction firm and homebuilder, Verto Construction, DFR Roofing was instructed to construct the new waterproof coverings on both the clubhouse and shop; working across a combined roofing area of over 1,100sqm. Requiring a waterproofing, warm roof solution which could not only withstand the harsh coastal conditions, the roof also needed to be aesthetically pleasing, with the new structures located directly at the club’s main entrance.

Results

Specifying a ‘one stop’ approach to the roof’s material build-up, a full IKO specification was provided; including IKO Enertherm GOLD insulation board, IKO Spectravap vapour control layer and IKO Armourplan PVC with decorative profiles. Ensuring material compatibility of the roofing build-up, IKO was specified due to its performance, aesthetics and durability, as well as its long-life expectancy and energy efficiency properties; with the client also receiving the assurance of a full system guarantee.

Commencing works at the end of January, and working to a tight programme – to coincide with the opening of golf season – the DFR team working on the project was made up of trained and experienced single ply operatives. All materials were installed to the exact specifications required, which included installing over one cubic mile of standing seam decorative profiles.

While the project was standard in terms of its approach, the onsite DFR operatives faced challenging conditions, with its exposed coastal location falling victim to high winds and unpredictable winter conditions. Despite this, the DFR team continued to safely complete all works on programme – and all works within the first phase are set to be completed by the end of April.
