As a much-loved hub of the community, the Torbay Leisure Centre’s sports hall was in dire need of attention. Suffering several leaks over the years, the decision was made that the hall needed a full roof replacement if further damage was to be avoided.
DFR Roofing was called in to survey and propose a new system; one which met the client’s strict criteria of cost and quality. Following a full evaluation by our expert team, we subsequently recommended the Bauderflex Built Up Felt System – a heavy duty, robust and extremely tough roofing system, with a lifespan of over 25 years.
Following agreement from the client, the existing roof coverings were removed to the deck, with a significant volume of debris disposed of during the process. Following this, a new vapour barrier, PIR rigid insulation and Bauderflex built up felt system was installed.
As part of the works, the existing glazing from all the roof lights was also removed – this also required the use of specialist scaffolding to ensure worker safety and to prevent falling debris. The works required the voids to be framed out with new boarding and insulation, seamlessly integrating with the Bauderflex system.
The complex and detailed nature of the works meant that significant health and safety procedures were required throughout the duration of the project – this included a large amount of scaffolding, protective clothing and the use of harness restraints. Finished on schedule, the client and members of the Torbay Leisure Centre can now enjoy a leak-free sports hall, supported by one of the industry’s most durable roofing systems.
